E-commerce

Buying stuff of the internet keeps getting more popular, a great innovation or just another reason not to get out your seat? When e-commerce just came around everybody was skeptical. People were afraid to get scammed, liked to see the actual product and didn’t really see the point. A couple of years after that, people even order their groceries over the internet.

Sometimes when I look out the window I see a complete truck with potatoes, sometimes a van filled with loafs of bread and other times a normal car with oranges. They all stop at the same address. Across the street there lives a woman who seems addicted to buying stuff online. Is this the way e-commerce was meant I wonder. If you want to, you do not neat to leave your house for anything you want.

The way I would like e-commerce to be used is for custom products. For example it could be used to customize your own shoe or even computer. The essence should be that you only buy products of the internet because you can’t get them in a store. If this is not the essence I believe stores will completely disappear and companies would sell their product exclusively online. I do not want to see the shops in the cities vanish. They just add too much to the atmosphere.

So the next time you order your potatoes while sitting in your lazy chair think about taking the bike for a five minute drive neighbor!

Students On The Internet

Is the internet contributing to the learning process of students? Everybody seems to agree on this matter and simply refer to all the information that can be found on it. I am still skeptical about this statement. For instance I am not that sure about how reliable the information is that the students get from the internet.

All the arguments used to underline the importance of the web aren’t very good at all I think. Looking up information on the internet is only an advantage if you really know where to find what you are looking for and when it is written by a professional. Both these vital points are often not met. This is because most things are written by non-professionals or even complete lunatics.

Though making contact with your peers might be quicker and easier, to often it is also meaningless and impersonal. Getting in contact with you classmates by phone is not only a lot more personal, it is also more efficient to get to the point. This brings me to the point of the distraction.

Having a messenger open and being online all the time to talk to your palls does keeps students away from their work. Not only the chatting but also all the forums, games and whatever is out there takes away concentration.

In my opinion the internet is overestimated as a guide for students to do their work. Though it obviously also depends on the student’s work ethic.

Wasting Time With: Twitter

“Share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world.” This is the first thing I read when I go to the Twitter website. Already I can’t help but thinking it is all a bunch of b.s. This statement makes it sounds like Twitter keeps the world updated of vital and important news, while actually it does nothing but waste people’s valuable time by keeping track of how other people waste their valuable time.

Just like all the other “social” websites out there on the web, Twitter does not contribute to anybodies social life what so ever. In fact, it does the opposite. Apparently all those people were never told going on the internet and reading that an acquaintance is in the bathroom for number two is not keeping up your social network. Putting it in a funny situation like this it may all sound obvious. Though unbelievably enough, this is what keeps millions of people hooked on Twitter every single day.

To me the only thing Twitter does is give people an easy way to give up their privacy and get obsessed with other peoples unimportant activities. The people who Twitter are probably the same as the ones who watch Big Brother, or the ones to update their Facebook account daily. All do these shows or websites serve the same purpose: wasting people’s time with unsatisfying, non-productive, meaningless crap.

John Frusciante

John Frusciante, in my opinion he belongs to the top quitar players and musicians. Not a lot of people know him or his songs. Though everybody of course knows him from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Hello dear readers!

I’m happy to be writing my first post, many more to follow!

Let me first introduce myself properly. My name is Felix as you might have figured out.

Since last week I am nineteen years old, sadly enough starting my last year as a teenager.

The reason I started this blog is because of my study in Utrecht. The study I take is International Communication and Media, simply ICM. For the course Web Skills we have to create a blog. On this blog I will post several stories I will have to write for school and a lot of other things that I feel like writing about.

So here you have it, my first post.
